This is a topic that I cannot believe is an issue in the great country of the United States of America but it is. This year we found out that our great country could stop working. The covid-19 pandemic took hold and the country went on lockdown for 2 full months. During this time we saw supply of medical supplies be very limited as our economy began to shutdown. Then the week after the lockdown riots began across the country. This turned out to prove that the pandemic was actually not real and the spread of the virus was a cruel joke on us citizens who suffered. We lost jobs and lost supply of essential items and lost the freedom to leave our home and work regular jobs. What I learned was that my ostomy supplies could stop arriving and stopped shipping. Why on earth would this happen? It is because the majority actually roughly 95% of all medical supplies come from and are imported from China. This was ground zero for the virus and shipping was limited. Then riots took hold and started to shutdown cities. Rule of law is still not in place in some cities and the impact of this has been the worst possible thing. Truck drivers which actually supply the majority of the country are starting to refuse to drive into these cities that lack rule of law. The criminal rioters are looting the trucks and hurting or killing the drivers in the process. The trucks are being destroyed and no police action is being taken. What this means is that if you have a stoma your ostomy supplies are not getting into that city. So if you live in one or have a chance of it happening in your area you must prepare. It is important to be prepared for the shutdown of supply. If you need these items to live and thrive then it is simple. You must have extra of these items on hand. Now I suggest not simply going out and buying three months' supply all at once. This is called panic buying and actually hurts the market, and can harm others if they are not able to get the regular supplies they need. But if you can purchase them slowly over time to build up that is prefered. But if you are in a city that may shut down, you have to do what you have to do. Do not count on police, cities, or anyone else to help you. This year showed us all that the government does not care about the citizens even though we supply all the funding for the government. Don't forget and don't forgive it if it happens, vote to stay safe and vote for people who will care.

While growing up, you might have been told quite many times to sit up straight. Parents, teachers, and closed ones want their children to sit up straight. Apart from the aesthetic benefits of looking taller, there is so much more to get by maintaining the proper posture of your body. When you sit up or stand straight, your muscles and organs get a breathing space to function in the right way. If you have played Jenga anytime in your life, you may know very well how necessary it is to ensure the correct stacking of all of the Jenga floors. Stacking a few pieces off-center can cause the entire building to collapse. While the wrong posture doesn’t result in your body to collapse like a Jenga building, it should give you the central idea of how necessary it is for our bodies to remain in the right posture. Because a properly aligned body keeps your diaphragm separated from abdominal organs, it makes breathing easier. Your diaphragm expands properly to allow all of the inhaled oxygen to reach your lungs. Its benefits extend far beyond the ease of breathing. With lungs functioning in the right way, the oxygenated blood reaches every cell of the body, enhancing your energy level and strengthening your immune system. What does it mean for people with an ostomy?
While maintaining correct body posture is generally beneficial for everyone, it is crucial for people with ostomies. Research suggests that people who have ostomies are inclined to having a poor body posture. That’s because of an extended resting period that almost diminishes the muscular strength, especially at the body core. With muscles in the back and abdomen failing to provide proper support, it becomes difficult for the patient to maintain an ideal body posture. This problem is also associated with the thoughts of carrying an ostomy bag for the rest of the life, resulting in a poor psychological state. It’s a general observation that a distressed person struggles badly with maintaining a good body posture. The impact of poor body posture is undesirable for people with ostomies in the same way as for people without ostomies in terms of health. The additional problem they face is related to ostomy management. Bending forward of the upper body results in the peristomal skin to move forward along the stoma, leading the stoma to retract along with the sutured part of the skin. This entire process can cause the skin barrier to losing hold of the peristomal skin, leading to the pouching system to come off, especially if you are using a convex pouching system. That said, it becomes necessary for everyone, especially people with ostomies, to work on the measures to correct their body postures. Several simple exercises can be plenty helpful in this regard. It is, however, significantly important to a doctor before committing to any fitness regimen. Most of the people associate core strength with six-pack abs only, but the matter of fact is that core consists of abdominal muscles, back muscle, gluteal muscles, and upper leg muscles. An ostomy surgery results in the abdominal muscles being compromised, leading to the entire core getting out of balance. Your physical strength depends heavily on your core strength. It’s the core strength that helps you stand upright, bend forward and backward, twist your torso, and balance yourself. The most complicated part of the procedure of rebuilding core strength after surgery is to take care of your abdominal muscles around an open wound. It’s crucial to be slow and steady in this recovery regimen. Remember, you will need to gain an agreement from your surgeon regarding your core building exercise. After getting clearance, you need to start the slow progression of your exercises. You can talk to your fitness trainer to modify abdominal exercises to make them suitable for your specific case. Before starting working on your core strength, you have to prepare your body by walking. Walking is a light exercise that makes you ready for the intense workout. The more you will walk, the sooner you will be able to get into the gym. That said, you can divide the workout routine to rebuild your core strength in different phases.

Make sure that you are following instructions from your trainer and surgeon. Fitness training after ostomy surgery tends to be a bit complicated due to the open wound in the abdominal wall to allow the stoma to appear. Ensuring the safety of that area should be your top concern.
